Jennifer—or Jenn—as she prefers to be called has been in love with books since she was big enough to open a book by herself. Always the shy, quirky kid, books allowed her to travel to new places and meet new friends. When she learned to print, she busied herself with writing her own books, and her mom was her first editor—and boy, she was a tough critic!
Jenn spent her childhood reading, writing, playing road hockey, and watching her beloved Toronto Maple Leafs or Green Bay Packers. She married her first two loves of writing and sports when she landed a job as a sports reporter at a daily newspaper.
Five years later, the newspaper closed its’ doors, and Jenn opted to return to school to study dental hygiene. After long hours at the dental office, Jenn returned to writing and eventually stumbled into editing when she realized that she’d rather read and make notes for her critique partner than writing her book.
An internship at Entangled Publishing helped her land her first publishing job at Kensington Book Publisher’s Lyrical Press. Seven years later, she applied for an internship with a boutique NY literary agency and found her calling, pairing her love for editing and her passion for working with authors.
Jenn joined the Harvey Klinger Literary Agency in the summer of 2020 as an associate agent. She is actively building her list in picture books, chapter books, middle grade, young adult, and adult fiction. You can check out her Manuscript Wishlist.
Jenn feels like she has the coolest job and expresses it frequently—she gets to read and edit books for a living—and in her pajamas! She loves nothing more than reminding her kids that passion, hard work, and believing in yourself can help make your dreams come true.
Jennifer attended Conestoga College for Radio and Television Broadcasting and the University of Waterloo for English literature courses. She’s also completed her publishing certificate at Ryerson University with a designation in children’s literature. She also completed a series of editing courses at Simon Fraser University.
When she’s not reading submissions or editing her clients’ manuscripts, she’s providing editorial services for independent authors through her business, Fresh Look Editorial. She can be found reading, playing road hockey or shooting hoops with her kids in her free time, watching her Toronto Maple Leafs, or sporadically writing.
